Robot City

On April 30th, in the picturesque scenery of Piazza Duomo in Milan, Andrea Bocelli opened, Expo 2015 by playing the M-Piano 2/3, a Stainway & Sons grand piano customized in statuario Carrara marble, produced in limited edition by Robot City and designed by Gualtiero Vanelli, also known as “MarbleMan”.

Bocelli’s choice to play also intrigued a pianist of world fame, Lang Lang, who was also present at the event and who could not resist the temptation to play the original instrument. Bocelli participated in the Expo as the Ambassador Extraordinary on behalf of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation. The tenor has always supported the candidacy of Milan and his concert accompanied by the Choir and Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan was broadcast live worldwide.

Famous classical artists and opera singers took turns coming on the stage, such as the great pianist Lang Lang, the soprano Diana Damrau, the tenor Francesco Meli, baritone Simone Piazzola, and the soprano Maria Luigia Borsi. The nale was a surprise, with Bocelli playing the song “La forza del sorriso” (“The strength of a smile”, written by Bocelli and composed by Andrea Morricone) on the marble grand piano M-Piano 2/3 to celebrate the opening of the Universal Exposition.
